The “interesting” word (when it describes ones research)…

Reading one of those funny “23 signs you’ve been in grad school too long” tops, it reminded of an older “problem” I have, one which should definitely be added to such a list (as I presume is a common problem with grad students/researchers). Basically, on daily interactions with people from outside academia, I am occasionally asked: “What is your research about?”. Then, it ALWAYS happens the same thing: I tell them in short, and they reply: “That sounds Interesting..”, a reply followed by an awkward silence.

My sentiments to that:

[not ok to use the “interesting” word if what you really mean is “i am so not interested in this” 🙂 ]
